It all started with a conversation between five friends, each with an interest in finding the best place to buy all the gear they wanted for the sports they enjoyed. The common lament was that there are a lot of places to shop for sporting goods but no one place to easily find all the gear you need for the sport you are planning to do this weekend. Sure, there are the big box stores that sell everything and then some. The problem is you have to really search to find all the deer hunting gear or all the car camping gear you need for the big trip this weekend without tripping over stuff for bear hunting, fly fishing, backpacking or biking. Traipsing from one department to another, forgetting to go to the backpack department after spending 15 minutes sorting through all the electronics to find the GPS I was looking for. Of course, there are a few really good specialty sport shops (mostly online) that sell great gear for a single sport. It’s just that there are not specialty shops for all the sports we like to play. And each specialty shop is laid out differently or else they have different shipping policies or the selection is just not that great. Not the best option.
Why couldn’t there be one place to go that has a great selection of only the gear I need for whatever sport I am preparing to do?
BING!We decided right then and there to build those stores. Our vision was to build a group of stores that stock only the gear you need for your sporting activity. Really specialize. Make it easy to find everything you need just for your sport. Next month, when you are planning that big open water fishing trip there would be a specialty store just for that.
To make it easy for the customers to navigate the store, each one would be laid out the same, offer the same great shopping experience, customer service, selection and price. Each time you step into one of our stores you would be instantly familiar with the layout. It would be like visiting your favorite specialty shop within a big box store. You can save time, money and shop with the confidence that you know you will get great service, no hassle returns and no shipping costs.
Now if we could only think of what to call these great on-line stores that group only the gear that you need only for the sport you are planning. TheOnlyStores was born.
